St. Anthony's Roman Catholic Church (1889) 1
St. Anthony's Church is a Roman Catholic church located at 1535 - 16th Avenue on the corner of East 15th Street and 16th Avenue in East Oakland. The church also operated the St. Anthony School.
The cornerstone was laid in 1885, and the new building dedicated in 1886. Rev. William Gleeson was the rector for 30 years until his death in 1903.
Many of the old wooden structures were demolished in 1949 and replaced with more modern buildings in the brutalist style of architecture.
