Pioneer Beverages was a beverage company from 1885 to at least 1948.
An article by William Sturm in the OHA News says it started in 1879 as Pioneer Soda Manufacturing Company and changed its name to Pioneer Soda Water Company in 1896. 4
A 1903 article lists J. Many, president; John D. Montgomery, vice president; William Lang, manager; Julius Somps, treasurer; A.W. Baker, secretary. 5 The 1903 directory switches J. Many (treasurer) and Julius Somps (president). It's not yet known which is correct.
Early on they were known for their seltzer water. Later they produced and distributed Golden Bridge brand drinks. They were local bottlers and distributors for Rainier Brewing of San Francisco, distributors for Canada Dry Ginger Ale, and the Alameda County agents for Schlitz Beer. 3 The Golden Bridge brand was around until at least 1966.
c.1940, their bottling plant was at 343 - 10th Street at the corner of Webster. From at least 1933 to 1941, William Lang was the president. 3 P. E. Lenane was the secretary in 1941. 2
