Carmen Flores Recreation Center is located in Josie de la Cruz Park in the Fruitvale district of Oakland. Activities at the center include Gomez Kajukenbo Karate, Zumba dance and an After School Assistance program for children in Kindergarten through 5th grade. The "children will receive academic support, participate in recreational sports and activities as well as exposure to cultural enrichment" in the after school program.
On August 2, 2012, nonprofit Rebuilding Together, in partnership with Maxwell House and Wheel of Fortune's Vanna White funded the new community garden at the Carmen Flores center.
