Riding the remnance of hippies, it's increasing acceptance among hipsters, and general health-conscious West-Coastism, Yoga is alive in Oakland. As of July 2013 a yelp search revealed at least 14 dedicated Yoga studios in Oakland.
One's choice of Oakland Yoga studio is personal, but as OaklandWiki is committed to access, a simpatico way to classify studios is by their pricing philosophy. One trend in Yoga studios is to move away from fixed-price classes and towards donation-based classes. In a donation-based Yoga studio, there is typically a suggested fee, and a pay-what-you-can attitude. That means, yes, you are welcome to practice yoga at those studios, even if you cannot afford the full (or any of the) suggested fee.
