The Vue46 Building is a 5-story condominium building on the border with Emeryville between 45th St. and 46th St. Part of it was originally built in 1924 for the Aluminum Cooking Utensil Company, makers of "Wear-Ever" cookware. In 1970, it became the home of the Flecto Company, maker of paints and varnishes.
"Wear-Ever" Warehouse
In 1924, the Aluminum Cooking Utensil Company announced it had purchased the entire block between Adeline, Linden, 45th, and 46th Streets from the Remar Company, with plans to build a 45,000 square foot warehouse. This would become the West Coast distributor for their products; the company was based in New Kensington, Pennsylvania. Although it covered more than half of the block, the address used was generally 1012 - 45th Street as that's where the offices were.
An addition was made on the Oakland side in 1929. A second, 5-story addition was made just north of that in 1947.
The company was still listed at 1012 - 45th Street in the 1969 directory.
Flecto Company
The Flecto Company bought the building in 1970 in order to consolidate their operations including manufacturing. They began operations there in 1971.
Vue46 Condominiums
In 2000, plans were made to convert the building into the Emeryville Lofts. There would be two stories added, and result in 79 loft-style residential spaces for sale. However, things apparently didn't get moving until 2007 as the 46th Street Lofts, which added three stories, and finally became Vue46 in 2009. 1
