Urban Releaf is an Oakland-based non-profit created "to address the needs of communities that have little to no greenery or tree canopy. We focus our efforts in under-served neighborhoods that suffer from disproportionate environmental quality of life and economic depravity." 1
Urban Releaf was founded in 1998 by Kemba Shakur. She was inspired after moving to West Oakland and seeing the lack of greenery. Kemba is currently the executive director.
[ Question: are they still active? I can't find a current website. ]
