mural in 2025, shortly after being restored
The To Ignore Evil... mural is on Lakeshore Avenue between MacArthur and Lake Park under 580 in Lakeshore. The mural depicts Martin Luther King, Jr and his son and reads "To Ignore Evil is to Become an Accomplice to It."
According to the inscription, this mural was painted by Susan Greene, Meera Desai, students from Westlake Junior High school, members of Project YES and the East Bay Conservation Corps in 1992.
With funding from the California Department of Conservation, EBRPD, and a MLK Jr. Grant.
In 2025, the lower right quadrant of the mural was partly defaced by graffiti, which was later painted over, obliterating the mural's sponsorship and artists' credits. This has since been fixed by local artists Dave Burke & Pancho Pescador, who were authorized by Susan Greene (the mural's artist) to have the mural cleaned up.
