Rod McKuen (April 29, 1933 – January 29, 2015) was a poet, songwriter, singer and composer who was born in Oakland.
He ran away from home at age 11; not sure how much time he spent in Oakland after that. He attended Oakland Tech for a time, but dropped out before graduating.
