Revol was an LGTBQ bar and restaurant at 3924 Telegraph. It was started by Peter Palm (aka Nez Pas) and Ralph Tate. It opened in 1974, and closed in 1987.
("Revol" is lover spelled backwards. For some years, they used the tagline "There's a 'There' Here!" Nez Pas wrote for Bay Area Reporter about the East Bay gay bar scene.)
It first opened as a beer and wine bar; they got a liquor license in 1975. Business grew until 1977, when a fire destroyed the "Mary Hartman Room." After repairs, they opened with a restaurant in 1978. 1
In 1983, the restaurant was known as Sassy's, and they did a remodel to a lighter color scheme. A listing in the Bay Area Reporter starts with "Older and younger, friendly, cruisy, dining." 3
The GLBT Historical Society has an ephemera folder with some items for Revol, including business cards (for Peety, Ralph, and the restaurant), a flyer for their 9th anniversary celebration on Sunday, August 14, 1983, and a homemade 1982 calendar full of events, jokes, and vintage drawings. 2
