Pinto Park (or Pinto Playground or Pinto Ranch Recreation Area) is a small park located at 5000 Redwood Road. Its primary feature is the Owen Jones Memorial Field.
Before it was a park, part of the land was Pinto Ranch. In 1957, the school board began negotiations to purchase 10 or 12 acres for a school and a recreation area. The city and school board disagreed about how much land to purchase, but finally agreed in 1958.
Carl B. Munck Elementary School opened just down the hill in 1961.
After long-time Oakland Recreation Department employee Owen C. Jones died suddenly in 1963, a memorial committee was formed. A lighted softball field at Pinto Park was suggested in 1964 as a suitable memorial. After various fundraisers and work, the field was dedicated in May 1965.
