Melrose Methodist Church was a church at 5251 Wentworth Avenue at 54th Avenue. It was organized in 1907 (before Melrose was annexed by Oakland in 1909) and active to at least 1969. The cornerstone of the building was laid August 14, 1910. It was constructed in 1910 2 and dedicated February 12, 1911. 3
The 1910 building replaced an earlier chapel, dedicated in 1907. 4 Edward C. Welch, 1 L. N. Peck, W. J. Marcum, L. A. Raleigh, and W. T. Tenney were the founding trustees. 5 The church was also known as Melrose Methodist Episcopal Church. It appears as Wentworth Avenue Methodist Episcopal Church in a few early references. 6
