The walls of Martin Luther King, Jr Elementary School at 960 10th St in the Acorn/Oak Center neighborhood are covered with murals of awesome figures and role models from black history including local hero Mother Mary Ann Wright. The murals on the right just have names under the figures but the ones on the left include their dates and why they're important. The murals on the right also include science and engineer stuff while the ones on the right show regular people doing regular things as well as neighborhood scenes and images of nature.
The mural was painted in 2010 and was sponsored by the Kala Art Institute. The mural was funded by the Oakland Unified School District and led by muralist Jamie Morgan. The student artists were Josha, Nada Abdo, Jamiana Akino, Dejon Banks, Khaliah Byrd, Jailen Couey, Keymonte Gibson, Luis Gonzales, Anton Jackson, Jazzmine Jackson, Fredrikka Lake, Fredrick Lake, Tyrese Malbrough, Lawana Mason, Neisha Moore, Deaareon Morris, Brittney Moss, Zamiah Nobles, Nick Poindexter, Ketwan Raynor, Noe Rosales, Ciara Smith, Gianna Smith, Terrilynn Tolson, Darrell Tucker, Deric West, and Wendell Wilson. All of their names are painted on the little house.
