The Manual Training and Commercial High School was on 12th Street between Market and Myrtle, and was a predecessor of Oakland Technical High School. It had previously been known as Central High School, then Polytechnic High School. 1 The building pictured was built in 1890 after fires damaged the previous Oakland High School; 3 when a new building was constructed in 1895, this was referred to as "the old Central High School."
The president of the class of December 1899 was Miss Dagmar Johnson. P.M. Fisher was the principal. A few years later, Miss Johnson married Walter Reed.
In 1901, the board of education revamped the high school programs. Central High School was renamed the Commercial and Polytechnic High School. 2
The 1912 directory lists Philip M. Fisher still as the principal. When Oakland Tech opened in 1914, he became principal there.

By the 1951 Sanborn, it had been demolished, and part of the lot filled with an apartment building and some temporary classrooms for the original location of McClymonds High School.
