The Kingfish Pub and Cafe is a dive bar near the intersection of Claremont Avenue and Telegraph Avenue. Formerly a bait shop, the bar's original location was exactly one mile from the UC Berkeley campus, as the campus previously had an alcohol-free radius of one mile. 1 The Kingfish opened in 1922. 2
In 2015, the Kingfish was moved—the ENTIRE Kingfish Pub, building and all—around the corner onto Telegraph. 3, 4, 5 It was also expanded substantially, with a large beer garden in the back.
Dog-friendly! It has a good selection of beers, free popcorn, and Red Sea Ethiopian across the street from the old location will deliver meals to you in the bar. The walls and ceiling are covered with sports memorabilia, and 3 TVs are always tuned to sports.
Won 2014 "Readers' Choice" Best Neighborhood Bar in Oakland Magazine.
