John McCann (d. 1865) served on the City Council in 1858.

John McCann was the first Chief of Police for the Oakland Police Department. The Chief was then called "Marshal." He served in the Oakland Guard. He was known as one of Oakland's pioneers and most loved citizens, and because of this was given a military funeral.2
