Joseph John (“J.J.”) Krieg (July 27, 1876 – October 24, 1957) was the proprietor of J.J. Krieg Company, a men's clothing store.
NB: His name appears as Joseph John in some records and articles, and John Joseph in others. His name is listed as Johan in the arriving passenger lists in NY in 1889. And Joseph J. is carved on his gravestone.
Krieg was born in Germany to Engelbert Krieg and Alberta Steinwachs (Krieg). The family moved to Alameda in 1889, where the parents were involved in the laundry business. Engelbert Krieg was one of the organizers of St. Elizabeth Church. 1
J.J. attended schools in Alameda, then took a commercial course in Heald's Business College. He was active in the Young Men's Institute, a Catholic fraternal organization which was founded in San Francisco in 1883.
Krieg married Agnes Sophia Wolf (Krieg) (June 30, 1878 – February 4, 1950) in 1903 and they had two children, Joseph Hugh Krieg and Frances Dolores Krieg (Donovan).
After Agnes died in 1950, Krieg married Celia Abood (Krieg) in 1952.
