Herrick House was built in 1885 for S.F. lumber magnate Edward M. Herrick. In 1986 it was moved near Preservation Park, but before it could restored, it was destroyed by fire in 1988.
The original location was the southwest corner of Hawthorne and Webster on Pill Hill. The area was known as Academy Hill in the early days because of various academic institutions were there, including St. Mary's College and the Pacific Female College, which were across the street from the house.
In 1986, it was cut into pieces and moved to 12th Street and Martin Luther King, Jr. Way near Preservation Park. In 1988, a fire destroyed the larger piece. 1,2
