1942 1

The Fox News Theatre (or Fox News Reel Theatre) opened in the Tapscott Building in 1942. The existing space was remodeled by noted theater architect S. Charles Lee. 1

On opening night, July 3, 1942, CBS newscaster William Winter made an appearance and interviewed some of the newsreel cameramen.

On April 30, 1943, it became the Telenews Theater. The Telenews had previously been on Franklin at 15th.

In 1954, it was re-christened the Globe Theater showing feature films. It was open until 1957.

[ Question: the 1950 Sanborn labels the space "1922 Movies". 1922 is when the Tapscott building was built...were there any theaters in the space before the Fox News Theatre in 1942? ]
