IMPORTANT: If you call the Police or Fire Department in an emergency from a cell phone, calling 911 will send you to a California Highway Patrol dispatcher in Sacramento who will have to transfer you to an Oakland dispatcher. To save precious time in an emergency, program the emergency numbers for Oakland, Emeryville, and Berkeley into your cell phone and add them to your speed-dial or favorites list.

Note: The Non-emergency number should be used to report any suspicious behavior and suspicious vehicles parked or driving in your neighborhood or area of business. Callers can opt not to provide their name and number and remain anonymous.  (If you give your name your call is more likely to get a response and not "stacked.") Please include any descriptive details that could be helpful. Jot down the date, time and location you saw the vehicle or suspicious person. Each time this information is reported, it is used in the investigative process.
