Embarcadero Cove is the neighborhood between I-880 and Brooklyn Basin along Embarcadero Road. The section of waterfront runs south from Jack London Square towards Alameda. It's a mixed use area of warehouses, industrial buildings, artists lofts, marinas, shops, restaurants and hotels.
Many of the older buildings were moved to the area from elsewhere in Oakland in the 1970s. [ see Donald Durant and Victoria's Station Restaurant ]
Originally Embarcadero Cove referred to the area immediately around the marina near Quinn's Lighthouse, but has grown to include more of the shoreline. The Port of Oakland petitioned the U.S. Board of Geographic Names in 1984 to change the name of the waterway from Brooklyn Basin to Embarcadero Cove.
The Bay Trail runs along the water with many opportunities to stop and enjoy the views. Kids can romp around a playground in a tucked-away park or gaze at sailboats harbored in Embarcadero Cove from the deck of a quirky pub and restaurant, Quinn's Lighthouse.
