The Duel Brae Apartments are a 32- or 33-unit building at 1445 Lakeside (previously 1445 Oak). The building was constructed c.1914-1915.
United Home Builders purchased the lot in 1914 and planned to build "a magnificent fire-proof apartment house". 1 It's unknown when the building was completed, but the 1916 directory lists people living at the address.
Perhaps not 100% fireproof, the building suffered a major fire in November 1958. 80 people were forced to flee, and 125 firefighters battled the blaze. While the building survived, some of the residents lost all of their belongings. 2
