Clawson is a neighborhood in West Oakland which sits below the MacArthur Maze at the gateway to Emeryville and South Berkeley.
For decades it was a predominantly working class neighborhood. Over the recent decades the area has gone through a period of change, with new people moving into Clawson.
The neighborhood is named for Clawson School, which was in turn named for educator William Clawson.
