There have been several buildings that have served as the City Hall Annex over the years.
1910-1914
In 1910, the former Braley-Grote Furniture Store building at 1728 Broadway (1358 before 1912 renumbering) was remodeled for temporary offices while the new City Hall was being constructed. 1 The new city hall building was completed in 1914, and city offices were moved out of the annex.
The building had only been constructed a few years before in 1907 by James P. Edoff for Braley-Grote. 2 They moved to another building in 1910.
The building and large painted sign on the south wall are visible in the background of a 1913 photo showing the construction of 1700 Broadway.
The building was reported sold in October 1914.
1980-1989
In 1980, the city purchased the Pacific Intermountain Express Building which became known as City Hall West. It was in use until the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake.
