Calvin Simmons Middle School was the name of a middle school located in the Peralta Hacienda neighborhood of the Fruitvale District. It was named after Calvin Simmons sometime in the early to mid-1980s. Prior to that, the school's name was Alexander Hamilton Junior High School.
The school site is currently occupied by the Life Academy, a public high school focusing on health and bioscience, and United for Success Academy, a public middle school which opened in 2006.
Recently, a new 2-story science building was added to the campus.
History
Financing for Alexander Hamilton Jr. High was provided by a 1919 bond measure. The cornerstone was laid in 1922. 2
