The Bonsai Garden at Lake Merritt, Oakland, CA (JL)The Bonsai Garden at Lake Merritt (BGLM) has been open to the public in Lakeside Park in Oakland, California since 1999. Supported by donations, the garden is staffed and maintained by volunteers.
There are over 100 bonsai on display at any time, with more than 250 trees in the collection. Curator Kathy Shaner oversees care of the bonsai and is the only Japanese certified bonsai master in the United States.
Although admission is free, donations are gladly accepted to support the Bonsai garden.
