The Associated Students of Berkeley City College (ASBCC) is a student-run council, consisting of 20 elected members, that acts as the voice of the students at Berkeley City College. The council meets every week on Tuesdays during college hour (12:20-1:20) in room 57. All meetings follow Robert's Rules of Order and the Brown Act. Click here to view our Constitution and Bylaws.
Berkeley City College, better known as BCC, is located at 2050 Center Street in the heart of downtown Berkeley. BCC is an all inclusive community college campus that serves about 7,000 students in the Bay Area. Berkeley City College is a part of the Peralta Community College District (PCCD). Laney College, Merritt College, and College of Alameda are also within PCCD.
This month on Peralta Matters, guest host Chancellor, Dr. Jowel C. Laguerre, Ph. D. introduces us to three of our amazing student leaders. Adrien Abuyen is a student at the College of Alameda and sits as a student representative on the Peralta Colleges Board of Trustees. He explains his decision to attend college and drive to help fellow students. Brianna Rogers, President of the Associated Students of Berkeley City College, describes her successes as a returning student and the activities that have led to her Servant Leadership. And Serena Witherspoon of Berkeley City College details her passion for youth voter education and experiences as a college student.

Presidents Bio My name is Brianna Rogers, and I am honored to be ASBCC President. I am also co-chair of the academic committee in BCC’s very own Black Student Union, and am a natural leader in the classroom. Born and raised in Berkeley, I am a passionate, seasoned leader in my community. My college experience began in 1999 at San Francisco State where I quickly realized that I wasn’t prepared. 15 years later, I am back with a purpose! I am a mother of a 14 year-old future concurrently enrolled BCC student. Needless to say, I am committed to ensuring that we all have access to every resource available. I am in EOPS, and CalWORKs so I have the firsthand knowledge of how programs run here on campus. Having experienced the disappointment of failing the first time, I’m now fully walking in my purpose in life as a leader. I have the life experience needed to guide us towards reaching our educational goals in the most efficient manner. Also, I’m committed to “keeping the train moving” as my goal is to see all of us win! As President I can guarantee that I will lead in such a way that will make us desire to step up to greatness. I’m a strong believer in allowing your work to speak for itself, and I have the assertive manner necessary to make change occur. I’m focused, intentional, committed, and ready to LEAD & SERVE! One cool fun fact about me is that I am one of the voices of Peralta TV. Click here to hear watch one of my spotlights!
