In May 2013 Joanne Chesimard aka Assata Shakur became the first woman on the FBI’s terrorist list. She was a member of the Black Panther Party and the Black Liberation Army. Local groups are holding teach-ins about Shakur.

HUB Oakland, Betti Ono, Sankofa Events and Kin Folkz are hosting events to educate the public about Chesimard.
The first installment of the teach-in is June 7th
- HUB Oakland (1423 Broadway), 5pm-10pm: There will be a community art wall, interactive spoken word workshop, and reflections from Ericka Huggins (Schedule of activities HERE).
- Betti Ono (1427 Broadway), 7:30-8:30: will be recording responses to the Assata Teach In.
- The New Parkway (474 24th Street), 3 PM: screening of Eyes of the Rainbow, a documentary on Assata Shakur
