The Arbor Villa Palm Trees are located from the West side of 9th Avenue from E. 24th to E. 28th Streets, along Bayview Ave. from East 28th Street to 927 Bayview and on East 28th Street from Park Blvd. to 9th Avenue.
These Washingtonia Robusta Palm Trees were planted around 1890, to line what used to be the eastern edge of FM Smith’s gilded-age estate (a gap in the trees about halfway down shows where a road once led onto the property) and today are practically the only remaining traces of that once magnificent place.
On March 21, 1978 the Arbor Villa Palm Trees were designated an Oakland Landmark, under Zoning Case #LM 77-573.
