The AB&I Foundry was a metal foundry at 7825 San Leandro Street that manufactured cast iron soil pipe and fittings for plumbing systems. The company had been around since 1906 and employed approximately 200 people. The Oakland plant closed in 2022, and it was relocated to Texas.
AB&I and its parent company, McWane, were sued in 2022 by the CA State Attorney General over release of toxins. In 2024, the EPA issued $274,000 in fines. 1
The outer wall of the foundry features a large, patriotically-themed mural.
