The 8th and Oak Victorians are four Victorian buildings from 708-728 Oak Street just below 8th Street. They were built in the 1890s.
Before the renumbering, the addresses were 852-864 Oak Street.
The first reference found is from 1891 for 864 Oak, with W. Matthews selling a residence and a lot with an offer to build. This is probably Wickliffe Matthews, an attorney in SF, who was listed as living there in the 1892-1893 directory with his family.
858 Oak is mentioned in 1895 in relation to judge H.K. Hanna visiting family there (probably W.A. Hanna). It appears to have been built as multiple units, as it has various non-related residents in 1898 and appears that way on the 1903 Sanborn maps. The others appear to have been built at as single family residences, though some have since been subdivided.
852 and 854 Oak are twins of each other. The earliest references found so far for them is from 1896.
