The 81st Avenue Branch Library is the newest branch of Oakland Public Library: it opened on Jan. 29th 2011. Part of a unique collaboration between the City, the state, and OUSD, the library is in the same campus as ACORN Woodland and EnCompass Academy elementary schools, making it both a public library and a school library. This is the only joint school/public library in Oakland, probably in the Bay Area, and possibly in California.
The collection contains more than 30,000 items in English and Spanish languages, serving both the general public and nearby schools. The branch has 22 PCs for public use with Internet access and Microsoft Office 2010.
The library is located in the Fitchburg neighborhood.
