35th Avenue is an arterial street stretching from San Leandro Street up to Highway 13. It was originally a county road before the area was annexed by Oakland in 1909.
On early maps, it is labeled County Road to Redwoods. By 1889, that was sometimes shortened to Redwood Road or Redwood Avenue. At some point following the 1909 annexation, it became 35th Avenue. The stretch of the county road east of Highway 13 is still known as Redwood Road.
It is two lanes for most of its length, and four lanes from I-580 to Highway 13.
